Vale Paul Whelan

There are always good owners and people that brighten your life. Then there are the truly great owners and the people who make the world a better place. Paul Whelan fell into the latter category. The team at MVL have been blessed to have called him a friend as well as a wonderful client for the past 7 years. We loved having his mares with us during the season, we always loved seeing him in person or chatting to him on the phone, his mares were exceptional and he was always so appreciative of every pleasure his horses gave him in a world that seems to so often just overlook such things at times. His staff loved him, his family loved him, his friends loved him – and it was no wonder. Paul, when we learned the news this morning that you had finally succumbed to your long battle with cancer and had gone to be with your beloved daughter Bridget there were many tears shed. To someone who had owned/ bred Group 1 winner Flying Artie (World Champion 3YO Sprinter who ran the Gr 1 VRC Coolmore Stud S. in a faster time than Merchant Navy, Brazen Beau, Zoustar, Sepoy, Star Witness, and Northern Meteor), Foxwedge & Rock Classic – then rest forever knowing you tasted the best that this sport had to offer – and you will always be in our hearts.
